Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format artwork, Medsan makes the Thousand Sunny, the Straw Hat Pirates' ship from One Piece imagined by Eiichiro Oda, sail into Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro. The figurehead lion and its scarlet mane split the turquoise waters, while the mainsail bears Luffy’s Jolly Roger, the skull wearing the straw hat. Behind him, Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado opens its arms above the forest, and Sugarloaf Mountain closes the horizon. Two myths of adventure cross paths: the world's most-read manga and the Brazilian postcard image.
The treatment is frankly painterly, oil with generous impasto: the medium is loaded with a knife in the clouds, the waves, and the canopy, and the grain of the canvas remains readable beneath the glazes of the sky. Medsan works a sunset in gradients of coral, magenta, and saffron, against the deep greens of tropical vegetation and the layered blues of the ocean. The composition adopts a bird’s-eye viewpoint, like the great bay views, with the curve of the beach guiding the gaze toward the ship placed at the exact center of the square. Micro-details abound: colorful parasols, bathers sketched in a few strokes, a favela perched on the hillside, white coastal buildings, flocks of birds in the oblique light.
The mashup says something simple and powerful: travel. The Sunny seeks the One Piece, Rio has always embodied the dreamed harbor of arrival, and the open arms of Christ take on here the value of a welcome offered to fictional sailors. The juxtaposition between an animated ship and the real landscape, painted with the gravity of a landscape painter, creates a fertile tension between childhood imagination and the tangible world.
A sunny and narrative piece, ideal for bringing a touch of escape and pop culture into a contemporary collector’s interior who values works that tell a story.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a workshop of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Set up as a true place of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, made, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
