An exceptionally rare original-season piece from one of Yohji Yamamoto's most memorable menswear presentations of the early 2000s.
The AW2004-2005 Pour Homme show famously featured members of the British band Madness, who appeared on the runway as part of the presentation. The same zip-sleeve blazer design is documented on a member of Madness during the runway performance, visible in surviving photographic material and footage from the show.
The defining feature of the jacket is its extraordinary full-length shoulder-to-cuff zipper construction. The sleeve can be progressively opened, separated and transformed, disrupting the structure of a traditional black wool blazer. A classic Yohji silhouette is turned into an interactive garment
— tailoring that can physically change its shape and relationship with the body.
What makes this piece particularly significant is its later archival recognition by Yohji Yamamoto itself. The design was revisited for the official Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme AW2019 "REPLICA 2004-2005 A/W" project, a line explicitly referencing the original 2004-2005 collection.
The later version carries the dedicated REPLICA archive label, further establishing this zipper blazer concept as a design selected for revival from Yohji's own archive.
