Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this vertical-format work, Medsan transforms Spider-Man, the Marvel icon created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, into a bronzed patinated statue emerging from nothing. The hero adopts the famous “crouch pose,” squatting on his heels, hands crossed on the ground, a silhouette that graced the cover of the character’s story. The monument has not been spared: its surface is covered with marker and spray graffiti, like a public sculpture in a Queens square left in the hands of taggers.
The treatment is in the realm of oil realist painting, worked in glazes on an absolute black background that isolates the body and sculpts light in the manner of Caravaggian tenebrism. The palette relies on the verdigris of oxidized copper, punctuated by flashes of red ochre and deep blues where the patina flakes away to reveal bare metal. Overhead, street art lettering unfolds: “THWIP”, “GREAT POWER”, “WEB”, “QUEENS”, “SENSE”, “TINGLE”, “SWING BY”, “HERO”, “LATE AGAIN”, drawn in white, black, and red in a quick tag, characteristic of New York lettering. The spiderweb mesh remains legible beneath the inscriptions, etched in bronze rather than painted.
The mashup speaks to the statue-ification of myth and its return to the street. By freezing the hero in metal, Medsan places him among official monuments; by letting him tag, he returns him to the territory that gave him birth, that of facades and railways. The words inscribed are not insults but fragments of a collective memory — onomatopoeias, a moral motto, missed appointments — as if the inhabitants came to write on their hero what they know about him.
A piece that is at once monumental and urban, ideal for bringing a touch of literate pop culture to a contemporary collector’s interior devoted to revisited icons.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a vibrant and plural contemporary creation. Set up as a genuine art production space, the studio operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, naive art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
