木村荘八 Kimura Shōhachi (1893–1958)
Kimura Shōhachi, born in the Nihonbashi district of Tokyo, was a leading Western-style (yōga) painter.
In 1912 he co-founded the avant-garde Fusain Society together with Kishida Ryūsei, and he later became a central member of the Shunyōkai.
He is especially celebrated as an illustrator — most famously for Nagai Kafū's novel "Bokutō Kidan" — and as a writer and illustrator who lovingly recorded the customs and scenery of old Tokyo.
After his death, his book "Tōkyō Hanjōki" received the Imperial Prize of the Japan Art Academy.
