Every so often I return to the figurative to remind myself that I can draw. While painting I recalled when I lived near Reggio Emilia and went to Gualtieri into the Ligabue woods. I’ve heard stories about the mad painter. In his shack among the branches, a curiosity from the village would often arrive. He had drawn a nude woman and the boldest took turns paying in hens to look at her. The intention today was more noble. The game isn’t there when there’s nothing to imagine.
