Chess set - Parelmoer groot Ingelegd Staunton schaakspel - Wood

This lot consists of a remarkable chess set. It is a handmade chess box crafted in the last century.

The exact date is unknown to me. It originates from Ankara.

The box is handmade. Different kinds of wood and mother of pearl in a mosaic-like arrangement form a grand artwork. The pieces of mother of pearl and walnut wood create a beautiful playing field.

Box dimensions: 34 x 34 x 9 cm
Board size – square size 3 cm.

The pieces are palmwood Staunton chess pieces. The pieces are in very good condition and fit perfectly on the box. The king measures 7 cm.

The chess pieces can be stored in the box. There are two drawers, which are lined with felt.

One handle is broken, but it still works fine. See photo
