Antique platinum Art Deco ladies’ wristwatch (circa 1920) with 78 natural diamonds totalling about 1.72 ct set in a platinum centrepiece and a black leather strap, in very good condition with leather wear and no laboratory report.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Type of jewel: An antique platinum and diamond-set Art Deco ladies’ wristwatch with an adjustable black leather strap.

Condition: In well-preserved condition, especially given this watch’s age, with age-related wear to the leather strap.

Style: Genuine vintage Art Deco, with a strongly geometric design and articulated diamond-set elements.

Era: Circa 1920.

Material: The diamond-set centrepiece is platinum (touchstone tested); the fastening section consists of a black leather strap with a metal buckle.

Technique: Geometric openwork with fine milgrain detailing.

Extra information: As is customary for platinum Art Deco ladies’ wristwatches of this type, the metal buckle allows the wearing length to be adjusted. Specially for this auction, the watch was checked and put in good working order by our watchmaker; nevertheless, this antique watch may gain or lose a few minutes per day and should be regarded primarily as a historical jewel rather than a modern precision timepiece.

Diamonds: 78 eight-cut diamonds with a combined estimated weight of approximately 1.72 carats (colour: H–J; clarity: SI–I).

Diamond weights, colour and clarity are approximate, as the stones were assessed in their settings and were not removed for grading or weighing.

All diamonds in this watch were individually tested with the EXA Natural Diamond Detector by Magilabs and identified as natural diamonds.

Traditional gemstone associations: Diamond is the birthstone for April and is traditionally associated with enduring love, as well as the 60th wedding anniversary.

Dimensions: Total length: 19.8 cm. Platinum centrepiece: 7.9 × 1.18 cm, including the crown. See picture with a ruler in cm and inches.

Weight: 15.5 grams.
