Description from the seller
Wonderful oil painting on canvas, measurements 50 x 70 cm (h.), work by the painter GENTILUOMO BARTOLO.Materia, thick and of great charm...! This work is an expressionist and vibrant representation of Times Square in New York City in the rain, created with a pronounced impasto technique. The scene captures the iconic Times Square intersection, focusing on the wet reflections on the asphalt, the characteristic yellow taxis in the center of the roadway and the blurred silhouettes of pedestrians on the sidewalks. The artist employs a style strongly influenced by modern impressionism and action painting. The thick, tactile strokes (impasto technique) suggest a combined use of energetic brushstrokes and spatulas to lay on the color, giving the canvas three-dimensionality and visual dynamism. The palette plays on strong thermal contrasts. The cold tones of blues and the deep purples of the buildings towering on the left-hand side clash with the warm, bright and artificial tones of the reds, yellows and oranges of the neon signs and advertising billboards on the right, which literally melt into the reflections of the wet street. Signed bottom right; title and counter-signature on the back,
