AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This painting is a typical traditional Dutch winter landscape by the contemporary Dutch artist Fred (Frederick) Arends (born in Arnhem in 1949). The work is signed in the bottom right with "F. Arends". Arends has fully specialized in painting in the style of 19th-century Dutch Romanticism. His detailed technique with fine brushstrokes and atmospheric cloud formations is strongly inspired by old masters from that period, such as Andreas Schelfhout and Charles Leickert.

A classic ice scene ("ice fun") with numerous skaters, a koek-en-zopie-like tent or sleigh, characteristic windmills in the background and frozen waterways. The work shows a warm, golden-yellow or ochre-like glow in the sky, which is typical of his depiction of a winter afternoon or evening twilight. This type of traditional Old Dutch scenes is internationally very popular. For that reason the artist signs and presents himself abroad (primarily in the United States) often as Frederick Arends.

Panel dimensions: 30 x 24 cm. The work is in very good condition!
