Description from the seller
Romano Mussolini (1927–2006)
Clown, 40 × 60 cm
The work depicts a clown with a strongly expressive character, built through intense and contrasting colors, marked black outlines and a deliberately non-naturalistic formal synthesis.
The painting is attributable to Romano Mussolini's figurative production dedicated to the world of the circus and clowns. The style combines Expressionist, Naïf, and Pop elements, with particular attention to the decorative force of color and to the psychological characterization of the subject.
The clown, with the characteristic black and red top hat, the large bow tie, and the heavily made-up face, occupies almost the entire composition. The dark background, animated by an intense halo of yellow, orange, and red tones, creates a strong contrast with the face and with the costume.
The work is accompanied by a FIAR S.r.l. certificate attached to the back, bearing the artist's name, the technique indicated as oil, the dimensions 40 × 60 cm, and the reference to S.G. Bolaffi 83 price quotations. On the back there are also the artist's signature and the indication of the dimensions.
