Description from the seller

“Held Between the Lines” – Original Painting No. I (XL)

Original, hand-crafted painting by Daniel Witschkanow, 2026

About the image:

A single human figure withdraws into a closed, almost protective posture. Head, arms and body merge with a dense network of black lines, so the person is simultaneously clearly present and partly hidden within their own interior.

The stance conveys intimacy, self-protection, and a moment of complete absorption. The body seems to turn inward – between calm, vulnerability, and inner tension. This creates a quiet, very personal visual impact without implying a definite story.

The reduction to deep black and white intensifies this emotional concentration. From a distance the figure appears as a compact human form, while up close countless threads, loops, and spontaneous accumulations reveal themselves.

Technique:

The painting was created in the artist’s characteristic thread technique. For this, high-quality, highly pigmented acrylic glaze is mixed with selected painting mediums until a fluid yet controllable consistency is achieved.

The color is applied to the canvas with brush and hand in long threads, dynamic loops, and spontaneous movements. Through numerous overlays, delicate lines as well as powerful consolidations emerge, from which the figure gradually takes shape.

High-quality acrylic paints and acrylic glazes ensure intense blacks, strong contrasts, and durable color brilliance. The combination of controlled line work and spontaneous movement makes each work a fully handcrafted, non-reproducible unique piece.

Seller's Story

Daniel Witschkanow is a German artist with a Bachelor of Arts in Design and a particular passion for contemporary portrait painting. He early on autodidactically engaged with various painting techniques and sold his first works already at the age of 14. After completing his studies with concentrations in CGI, film and photography, he devoted himself entirely to fine art. At the center of his work is the human being—not as a mere representation, but as a bearer of emotions, memories and inner tensions. His portraits move between figurative precision and experimental dissolution. This exact tension gives his works a distinctive expressive power and emotional depth. A central feature of his art is the specialization in the thread technique he further developed as well as the expressive smoky technique. Through targeted use of glazes, painting media and flowing structures, unique surfaces arise where control and chance combine in impressive ways. The color seems to flow across the canvas, to hover, or to dissolve almost texturally into the motif. Daniel Witschkanow deliberately works experimentally and combines in his works different materials and forms of expression. In addition to acrylic and glaze he also works with watercolor, oil and charcoal, giving his works additional depth, multiplicity and an unmistakable character. Each work is a unique piece and an expression of an ongoing artistic engagement with identity, transience and the emotional complexity of the human being.
