Radha - Bronze - India - 19th century

Radha in lost-wax cast and chased copper alloy.
The goddess Radha, wife of Krishna and goddess of gentleness and love.
She is depicted jeweled, standing, with wide hips and a slender waist; her figure is sensual and sinuous, her large breasts exposed, the hair combed back and gathered at the rear. A small silver moon-shaped ornament on the forehead and above it a small gold tilak ornament.
The love story between Radha and Krishna is a prominent theme in Indian art and literature, serving as a model of allegorical love to which everyone should aspire. Radha was Krishna’s favorite gopi (cowherd girl), and their love, a symbol of ecstasy between God and the human soul, has often been interpreted as the hope of the union between humanity and the divine.
Large and heavy bronze, in classical iconography, refined casting and very well chased.
Good condition, beautiful patina, height 26 cm.
