ON MISSION… — Hico

With On Mission…, Hico takes us to the heart of San Francisco's Mission District, an iconic neighborhood where cultures, generations, architectures and histories meet.

Through an intense palette of pink, turquoise, yellow, green and blue, the artist reinvents Mission streets as a living, almost cinematic stage. The colorful façades, the tightly packed buildings, the power lines and the silhouettes crossing the street compose a city in motion, where every detail seems to tell a story.

The characters, intentionally pared down and graphic, become universal silhouettes. They walk, chat, pedal, cross paths… each goes about their own way, each seems to have their own mission.

The windows lit with yellow bring a particular warmth to the nocturnal scene. They suggest the lives hidden behind the façades and give the neighborhood an intimate dimension, as if one could glimpse, for a moment, fragments of life through the walls.

The dog crossing the street, the bicycles, the transports and the many small details reinforce this impression of an urban instant. Hico does not merely aim to represent San Francisco: he captures its energy, its movement and its soul.

The title “On Mission…” also plays on the double meaning of the expression: being in the Mission district, but also being on a mission, moving forward with a goal, following one's own path.

This work is an invitation to stroll through the streets of San Francisco, to observe the details and to imagine the stories of those who walk them.
