Bronze replica titled Boeddhistische Medicijn Boeddha, 20 cm high and 13 cm wide, weighing 1361 g, dating to the late 20th century with provenance from Veilinghuis and a dark patina.
Description from the seller
Specifications:
Material: Bronze / Copper alloy
Height: 20 cm
Weight: 1361 grams (substantial and heavy casting)
Condition: In very good, authentic condition.
Dark, greasy patina: The surface has a deep, almost black patina that is characteristic of Tibetan and Nepalese bronze alloys that have stood in altar environments for centuries.
The shine is organic and created by the oils of hands and the smoke from butter lamps and incense.
Wear on the casting: The fine details of the hair knot (ushnisha) and the garment show soft, rounded wear on the edges. This indicates long-term ritual use and polishing over a period of more than one hundred years.
Coppery undertone: In places where the dark patina has been worn away slightly by rubbing (such as on the knee and the forehead), the warm, copper-rich bronze alloy shows through. Modern reproductions often use chemical lacquer coatings that upon wear show a very different, sharp brass colour.
