Le monoplan du pape [envoi de l'auteur à Jules Bois], a first edition by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Paris, E. Sansot & Cie, 1912, in French, 348 pages, in Très bon condition, with a signed autograph from the author on the title page to Jules Bois.
Description from the seller
Paris, E. Sansot & Cie, 1912, in 12 with a fanciful binding. Original edition of a futurist novel for which no large-paper edition was issued, a handsome autograph inscription signed by the author on the half-title page to Jules Bois.
This text is described by its author as a “political novel in free verse.” Written directly in French, it tells the story of an aviator (embodying Marinetti) who kidnaps the Pope in Rome, suspends him from his airplane, and flies over Italy to preach war and technological modernity. It is a foundational text of Futurist aesthetics. Jules Bois played a key role in introducing Marinetti to Parisian literary circles even before the official birth of Futurism. Notably, Jules Bois was the one who presented and introduced Marinetti’s lecture in Paris on the “Inspiring Beauty of Women.” This exceptional copy directly testifies to the networks of influence of the Italian avant-gardes in Paris and to the Franco-Italian literary friendships of the Belle Époque.
