Albert Genta, born September 13, 1901 in Paris and died in 1989, is a French painter renowned for his mastery of the female nude, in which he established himself as one of the most distinctive artists of his era. Trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, he develops early a personal, sensitive and audacious style, which earns him notice in Parisian salons from the 1920s. In 1941, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants a nude titled Femme endormie (Sleeping Woman), confirming his place in the Paris art scene. His oeuvre, abundant, explores the female body with a vivid palette, strong contrasts and a constant search for expressiveness. Genta is also the author of instructional works, including Le dessin enseigné par l’exemple (1949), bearing witness to his role as a transmitter and his time at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.
