Paysage méditerranéen, by Romero (XX), 1950–1960, oil on canvas, Spain, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
An attractive oil on canvas by a Spanish school from the 20th century, signed “Romero” in the lower left corner.
The work depicts a Mediterranean rural landscape starring several olive trees, arranged on open ground in ochre, green and reddish tones, under a wide, bright sky.
The composition stands out for its direct and essential character, built from large blocks of color and visible, expressive brushstrokes. The gnarled trunks of the olive trees provide rhythm and personality to the scene, while the stepped arrangement of the terrain guides the gaze toward an open and serene horizon.
The chromatic range combines greens, earth tones, ochres and bluish hues, creating a warm, fully Mediterranean atmosphere. The surface treatment shows impasto areas and a loose execution, especially noticeable in the sky, the trees and the ground, adding texture and dynamism to the whole.
The work is inscribed within the tradition of 20th-century Spanish landscape painting, particularly linked to depictions of rural and Mediterranean settings, where the landscape ceases to be merely descriptive and becomes a chromatic and materially expressive motif to explore.
The painting is signed “Romero,” although there is no accompanying documentation that allows for a conclusive identification of the author.
It presents a good overall state of conservation for its age, with the usual signs of time. The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow a detailed view of the artwork’s current condition.
From a private collection.
The work is presented with a frame. The frame is included as a courtesy and has no additional commercial value, and may show wear, small losses, restorations or flaws typical of use and age. Its state of preservation will not be a basis for a claim.
The piece will be shipped with professional packaging, carefully protected with materials suitable for artworks, aiming for maximum safety during transport.
For shipments outside the European Union, the buyer should consider that any possible tariffs, import taxes, customs handling charges and any other costs arising from the destination country’s regulations will be the sole responsibility of the buyer. Customs procedures may also cause delays beyond the usual delivery times.
An attractive example of 20th-century Spanish landscape painting, especially interesting for its Mediterranean theme, its expressive brushwork and the prominence of the olive trees.
