Description from the seller
Antique oil painting Winter landscape, first half of the 20th century – signed bottom right P. Evertz – Ornate frame
Dimensions with frame: 66cm x 94cm
Image dimensions without frame: 51cm x 80cm
The work shows a classical, wintry forest landscape in the tradition of late Romanticism and Realism. A snow-covered, muddy forest path leads the eye past intricately worked birch and deciduous trees toward a lone walker figure in the background. The muted light captures the melancholic atmosphere of a winter day perfectly. (Genre painting / mood landscape)
Technique: oil on canvas.
The exact title is not known.
Impasto to glaze-like color application in an academic manner; fine brushwork in the details of the branches, broader application in the area of the snow and sky.
The painting bears bottom-right the signature “P. Evertz” as a classic brush signature in oil paint; a very probable but not definitive attribution is possible.
Evertz was active mainly in the first half of the 20th century and specialized in atmospheric, late Romantic forest and winter scenes.
Detail shots show fine age craquelure. The work is in an age-appropriate, unrestored condition.
The painting is housed in an elaborate, wide wooden frame with gold and silver bronze finish and relief decor, giving the work an antique, valuable appearance. The frame has a damage on the left side (see photo), but otherwise is in a condition appropriate to its age.
