Jewish Torah Pointer / Yad – silver-colored alloy – rich Jerusalem relief – marked RT

Special and richly decorated Jewish ritual object: a Torah pointer, also called a Yad, made in a silver-colored alloy and provided with a long matching chain.

The Hebrew word Yad literally means “hand.” The Torah pointer is used when reading from the Torah scroll. With the small outstretched index finger at the end, the text can be followed without directly touching the precious parchment with the hands.

This fine example is distinguished especially by its unusually detailed decoration. Across various parts of the pointer, reliefs of city walls, buildings, domes and architectural depictions of Jerusalem have been applied. The dark accents in the recessed areas make the cityscape stand out beautifully against the glossy silver-colored surface.

At the end there is the traditional hand with an outstretched index finger. On the other side is a long metal chain attached, with which the Yad can be hung.

On the suspension there are two markings. These can be read as “RT” and a separate circular mark with the letter “E.” The exact manufacturer or maker has not been established. There is no clear silver content mark found and the object has not been tested for silver content. It is therefore correctly and cautiously offered as a silver-colored alloy.

An attractive collectible object with a lot of detail, interesting both for its religious significance and for its fine Judaica design. Especially the Jerusalem depictions around the piece make it possible to discover something different from almost every angle.

The Yad is in a nice used condition. There are aging and use traces, including localized discoloration, patina and superficial wear. These contribute to the character of the object. Please view the extensive photos carefully for a good impression of execution, details and condition.
