LORIN - Poise — Chapter 2

Original painting by LORIN, part of ongoing research on the human figure that emerges from textural surfaces and color. Lorin's research focuses on the female figure as an emotional and symbolic space, where presence, identity and perception meet.

Poise — Chapter 2 continues a reflection on balance, understood not as immobility or perfection, but as the ability to keep one's center even when something inside us changes. In English, poise indeed encompasses multiple meanings: composure, confidence, grace, but also a state of balance that does not need to be shown or proven.

In the painting this idea takes on a more intimate dimension than in the first chapter. The figure is gathered, almost folded in on herself, while the gesture of the arms and legs creates a kind of protected space. Yet there is no fragility in her posture: there is rather the sense of someone who has found a personal way of being with herself.

In psychology, emotional balance does not coincide with the absence of difficult emotions, but with the ability to move through them without being entirely governed by them. Poise — Chapter 2 tells this quieter form of strength: balance not as control of what we feel, but as the capacity to remain ourselves while we feel it.
