Description from the seller
Rare copy of the original 1846 edition of Les Prisons d’un prophète actuel poursuivi par tous les pouvoirs, published in Caen by the Imprimerie de Ch. Woinez under the name M. La Paraz.
The work is attributed to Alexandre Charvoz, priest and former curé of Montlouis, a figure linked to the prophetic and mystical movements around Pierre-Michel Vintras.
The copy is preserved in an elegant old leather binding with raised bands, gilded fillets and lettering, and displays a beautiful 19th-century patina.
The presence of an old handwritten inscription referring to Abbé Charvoz and to his role as curé of Montlouis constitutes a particularly interesting element for the provenance of this copy. This mention should be connected to the identity of the author published under the name “La Paraz,” but the inscription is not presented as an autograph signature without further expert assessment.
An especially interesting copy for 19th-century bibliophiles, for religious history, for prophetic movements, and for French esotericism.
