Description from the seller
Vintage Japanese Urushi Lacquer Box – Maki-e Gold Crane Design – Handcrafted Decorative Box
Shipping method: DHL Express
An elegant Japanese lacquered box decorated with a striking crane motif in gold-toned Maki-e style.
The glossy black surface provides a dramatic background for two large cranes in flight, surrounded by numerous smaller flying cranes. The raised gold-toned decoration gives the principal cranes a beautiful three-dimensional appearance, while fine detailing on the wings and feathers adds depth and refinement to the composition.
Cranes, or 鶴tsuru, are one of the most celebrated decorative motifs in Japanese art and have traditionally been associated with longevity and good fortune. The dynamic arrangement of the birds across the dark lacquer surface creates an impressive and highly decorative scene.
The interior is lined in a light-colored material, providing an elegant contrast with the dark exterior.
This compact box can be used as a jewelry box, accessory box, keepsake box, or decorative storage box. It also makes an attractive display piece for collectors of Japanese lacquerware and traditional decorative arts.
