The Lamentation is a 19th‑century Belgian oil painting in the Baroque style depicting the Lamentation of Christ, unsigned by the Europese school (XX), measuring 35 × 43 cm with its heavy carved and gilded frame and sold with frame in good condition.

This captivating devotional oil painting depicts the solemn biblical scene of the Lamentation of Christ, featuring the lifeless body of Jesus surrounded and mourned by the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, and other devoted followers against a dramatic landscape background with the distant crosses of Calvary.
Measuring 17 by 25 cm without the frame and 35 by 43 cm including its magnificent, heavy antique-style carved and gilded wooden frame with rich ornamental scrollwork, this expressive work draws heavily from classical Old Master traditions.
No signature is visible. The frame has a little break as shown in the last picture.
Offered in good overall condition with age-related craquelure and minor wear consistent with vintage decorative art, the piece combines deep emotional narrative with a striking, ornate presentation that makes it a compelling addition to any collection.
