Pair of Bohemian ruby-red Überfang vases with engraved hunting scenes, circa 1900
Beautiful and decorative pair of Bohemian vases, executed in deep ruby-red Überfang glass and decorated with refined engraved hunting scenes, dating from circa 1900.
The vases are made according to the traditional Überfang technique, in which a layer of ruby-red glass is applied over clear glass. By partially etching away the colored layer, the decorative depictions have become visible. The hunting scenes show deer in a forested landscape, with trees and other vegetation, and wrap around the vases.
Both vases have an elegant baluster shape with a finely formed, gently undulating rim and a round foot. The combination of deep ruby red, the clear etched decoration, and the classic form lends the pair a particularly decorative character.
