Description from the seller
A beautiful collection of 39 early issues of Hard Gras. Unread, in excellent condition.
Hard Gras is not just a football magazine, but an iconic Dutch literary football magazine for readers. The collection includes issues numbered between 3 and 50, published in the period 1995–2006.
Hard Gras was founded in 1994 by Henk Spaan and Matthijs van Nieuwkerk and grew into a unique magazine in which football, literature, journalism and culture come together. Well-known writers, journalists and football enthusiasts wrote about football from a literary, personal, surprising angle.
The magazine was thus innovative: football was not only described in terms of results and matches, but also as culture, emotion and part of daily life. It was precisely that combination that made Hard Gras special, giving the magazine a fixed place within both the football and literary worlds.
The collection contains several early and special editions, including no. 3 from 1995, one of the earlier issues with writers such as Jan Wolkers, Leo Vroman and Ronald Giphart about football; no. 5; no. 24 “Johan and I”; no. 37 “Football and Death”; no. 39 “They Were Better”, an extra thick edition about the 1974 World Cup and the Pelé party issue (no. 50), specially published to mark the milestone of 50 issues of Hard Gras. In addition there are interesting issues around, among others, Ajax, cult footballers and Feyenoord.
