Atmospheric religious image of a young shepherd with two sheep, interpreted as David before his kingship. According to Biblical tradition, David came from Bethlehem and worked as a shepherd before becoming king of Israel. Therefore the depiction symbolizes faith, protection, courage and leadership.
The statue is entirely carved in wood and rich in hand-carved details. The wood is presumably olive wood, a timber traditionally used for religious woodcarving from Bethlehem and the Holy Land.
