Description from the seller
Longwy Enamels – Large decorative plate with polychrome enamels, a stilting figure and flowers – Hand-highlighted by Simone Masson – circa 1945-1950 – Ø 33 cm
Description
Superb large antique decorative plate from Émaux de Longwy – France, with a diameter of about 33 cm, featuring a rich polychrome decoration realized and hand-enhanced.
The piece presents a remarkable floral motif on a turquoise background, characteristic of Longwy productions: flowers, foliage and stalks in deep blue, yellow, green, red and pink are outlined with dark contours.
In the center, a poly-lobed medallion on a cream background depicts an elegant wader by the water’s edge, surrounded by flowering vegetation.
Back marks:
Crested shield stamp surrounded by the Cross of Lorraine with the following inscriptions:
“HAND DECORATED”
“ÉMAUX DE LONGWY”
“FRANCE”
The plate also bears the inscription “Rehausse main” (hand enhancement), accompanied by a stylized handwritten monogram, S.M. (Simone Masson)
This type of mark and the piece’s characteristics place it in the first half of the 20th century, likely around 1945-1950.
The reverse is also glazed in a beautiful blue/turquoise tone and shows a network of age-related glaze crazing.
An old metal hanging device is present on the reverse, allowing wall display.
Dimensions
Diameter: about 33 cm
Origin
Longwy, France
Era
First half of the 20th century, around 1945-1950

Faience, polychrome enamels, decoration and highlights done by hand.

Good overall condition for its age, with light traces and signs of aging.
No defect is intentionally concealed; please review the photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of the description and allow precise assessment of the conservation state.
Very beautiful Longwy collectible piece, especially decorative due to its large 33 cm format, the richness of its enamels and its central wader motif
