Description from the seller
Alberto Vargas: "Diana as a huntress, 1929”.
Authorized color offset, produced in gloss with a high color intensity.
Condition: the work is in good condition, slight crease (see photos) and was issued around 1991.
Copyright: Vargas, a California proprietorship.
This artwork is an image of "Diana as huntress" by Alberto Vargas, who is known for his iconic 'pin-up' illustrations.
The goddess Diana depicted as a huntress, accompanied by two large dogs.
The "Vargas Girl" style is characterized by detailed representation of the human body and soft lighting.
The work was originally created around 1929 as a watercolor on board.
The dancer Caja Eric (famous from the Ziegfeld Follies) served as the model. This is one of Vargas' largest original artworks.
Publication in Esquire (March 1941). To meet a tight deadline, Vargas reused this image for Esquire magazine in 1941. Because a fully nude portrait was not allowed in the magazine at the time, a temporary acrylic overlay was painted over it that provided her with a green outfit.
Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper.
The shown photos are part of the description.
