About the artist:

Antonio Seguí, one of the most internationally renowned Argentinian artists, was born in Córdoba in 1934. He studied at the San Fernando Academy in Madrid, Spain, and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. In 1955 he returned to Córdoba, where he studied law and exhibited his first paintings. He traveled extensively through South and Central America before moving permanently to France in 1963, where he lived and worked in Arcueil near Paris, until his death in February 2022 at the age of 88 in Buenos Aires.

At the beginning of his career, Seguí's work was close to expressionist figuration, full of irony. Gradually, his figuration developed into the absurd, and he built a kind of theater, a stage on which a man in motion searches for his place in the world. With charcoal, pastel, pencil, or fountain pen he brings to life a colorful, graphic world that seems to come from the universe of comics, with the entire urban activity as its background.
Seguí's works are collected and exhibited worldwide, including MoMA, New York; Art Museum of the Americas, Washington, DC; Frissiras Museum, Athens, Greece; Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Argentina; Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Austria; Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik, Croatia; and Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, Mexico. The Musée National d’Art Moderne, Paris organized a retrospective of his works on paper in 2005. His works are in the permanent collections of the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, as well as the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, to name just a few.

Roland Garros is the traditional home of the annually conducted Internationaux de France; the tennis tournament is better known worldwide as the French Open. This is one of the official posters that were designed and produced each year for the tennis tournament at Roland Garros.
