In Magritte's last year of life, the famous dealer Alexandre Iolas asked him whether he had ever considered making sculptures as well. The painter had certainly thought about it, but those would have to be exclusively sculptures based on motifs from his paintings.

Le Thérapeute reflects a number of themes typical of Magritte's work: the extraordinary in the ordinary, the surprising and the unexpected, the mystery.
