Description from the seller
The painting offered here, titled "La dame aux fleurs", is dedicated to the woman and inspired by the American film Mary Poppins from 1964. The title of the artwork could also be: "The woman with the flower hat".
The artist Ruben van Veen (born 1960) lives and works in the Netherlands and studied drawing and painting at the Volksuniversiteit in Gouda and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. He has been exhibiting since 1992. His work is included in museum and private collections. In 2016 a catalog appeared "Ruben van Veen / Drawings, Paintings, Cardboard", a selection of his work from 1994 - 2016.
General information:
Ruben van Veen creates drawings, paintings and works on cardboard stock in a figurative intuitive approach, in which the subconscious forms an important part of the creative process.
Without a preconceived plan he starts with a piece. Then a human figure always appears. Usually accompanied by an animal, a fruit, an everyday object. This combination of images offers a glimpse into a bizarre world. The leading theme in the work is thus the human being and the complex social relation that people have with each other. It is about desires and fears and marks the thin boundary between seducing and repelling, harmony and conflict, tenderness and struggle.
Not without irony does he attempt to portray the riddle of life and he is in search of a constantly changing ideal of beauty.
