Porcelain cache-pot jardinière from a Paris manufacture, Edme Samson et Cie, late 19th century around 1880-1900.
Cylindrical shape with a molded border and two mascaron handles in the form of lion heads, gilded in fine gold relief.
Polychrome hand-painted decoration in the India Company style, China export, famille rose, armorial.
High frieze with blue scale on a lattice background, with cartouches reserved for pink flowers and berries. Low frieze identical.
Main face features an armorial shield in azure blue with two silver eight-pointed stars at the chief and a gold fleur-de-lis at the point, with gilded mantling, gold foliage, and a flowering crown.
Other face: bouquet of pink peonies and white flowers with green foliage.
Gold edges on the neck and base and gold stippling under the molding.
Mark under base: blue parasol with a J and two blue dots; mark “Porcelaine de Paris Samson,” photo provided.
Material: hard porcelain, bright white enamel, hand-painted, gilt-bronze tones.
Dimensions: height approximately 22 cm, diameter 25 cm.
Era: late 19th century, around 1880–1900; manufactured by Edme Samson Paris; specialty in imitation of the Compagnie des Indes XVIIIe; reference Sothebys “Samson genie de l imitation.”
Condition: good decorative condition, normal wear; gold on the upper edge slightly rubbed as in the photo; interior stains, signs of use; no cracks, no restoration; painting vivid.
