Pop Eye
Pop Eye turns the gaze into the absolute center of the composition. A large eye emerges among fragmented planes, graphic lines, and geometric shapes, building a face that seems to watch the viewer with the same intensity with which it is watched.
The work starts from a contemporary Cubist language, visible in the decomposition of the face and the coexistence of different perspectives, but it incorporates a decidedly pop sensibility through color, graphic simplification, and the visual boldness of its shapes.
Turquoise, pinks, yellows, and oranges face off in large chromatic fields of strong contrast. Color takes on a direct and optimistic energy, while repeated lines and small grafismos introduce rhythm and movement, bringing the composition closer to the visual language of design and contemporary culture.
The oversized eye breaks any naturalistic proportion and becomes a symbol. It is gaze, identity, and provocation, but it also creates a play with whoever stands in front of the work: it is difficult to contemplate Pop Eye without also feeling that one is being contemplated.
With a vibrant and deliberately direct aesthetic, Pop Eye proposes an encounter between the fragmentation inherited from Cubism and the visual immediacy of Pop Art, transforming the portrait into an energetic, irreverent, and contemporary image.
