The Lady and the Totem
The Lady and the Totem presents a scene of encounter between the human and the symbolic. A serene and restrained female figure shares space with a monumental, totemic presence, marked by large horn-like forms and deliberately fragmented anatomy. Between them an ambiguous relationship is established: it can be a dialogue, courtship, protection, or ceremony.
The composition develops in a contemporary cubist language, where bodies and faces are broken down into geometric planes and simultaneous perspectives. The simplification of forms distances the figures from a concrete identity and makes them archetypes, reinforcing the ritual character of the scene.
The palette is dominated by reds, earth tones, ochres, and blacks, creating a warm, primal atmosphere. Red runs through the figures as a shared energy, while blacks add weight and depth. Small blueish and white accents introduce contrast and guide the gaze to the faces, intensifying the silent tension between the two figures.
The totem can be understood as a representation of strength, ancestral memory, or the unknown. In front of it, the lady maintains a calm, almost ceremonial attitude. There is no confrontation: both presences seem to recognize each other and share a code that remains hidden from the viewer.
The Lady and the Totem thus proposes a scene situated between myth and reality, femininity and strength, intimacy and ritual. An encounter in which the figures cease to be mere characters and become symbols of a story that seems ancient, even though it has never been told.
