AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This very old and heavy metal votive plaque (bronze alloy) repoussé and chased comes from Karnataka and probably dates from the 17th-18th centuries.
It features Virabhadra, a fierce and warrior form of the god Shiva. He is depicted standing in a heroic pose, wearing an elaborately crafted crown and adorned with body jewelry. He has 4 arms holding his traditional warrior attributes: a sword, a club, a bow and an arrow.
The deity is framed by adorers at his feet such as King Daksha (with a ram’s head) and the goddess Bhadrakali.
The engraved discs on either side of the stylized crown represent the sun and the moon.
This type of domestic panel served as an icon (murti) in the shrine of a house in Hinduism.

Height 24.5 cm Weight 1530 g
Very beautiful patina.
