“Involuntary Flight,” stands as a lyrical self-portrait of doubt and merit. The composition, a fusion of figurative realism and expressive brushstrokes, captures a suspended moment where the central figure, a resting dancer, wrestles between her own perception and the surrounding reality. I built the dancer’s figure with solid three-dimensionality through bold brushwork and vibrant highlights. This technical precision celebrates discipline and the body’s triumph, while the warm tones and the sturdy pedestal give it a firm, luminous base. By giving this rich, tactile, luminous texture to the bluish wing, I make tangible what the dancer has yet to see—a structure of light and volume that confirms the absolute certainty of her own potential, spread out and ready for flight.
Vida AMReyes. (Granma, Cuba 1991) discovered from a very young age that drawing was not merely a pastime, but a way to translate the world. In 2010, she graduated with honors from the prestigious Carlos Enrique Gómez Academy of Fine Arts. There she consolidated an exceptional technical mastery in oil painting, acrylics, and life drawing, foundations that would later shape her distinctive conceptual style.
Her early career unfolded amid Cuban cultural fervor, actively participating in young art salons and group exhibitions. Her work quickly began to stand out: in salons and exhibitions she earned numerous awards and honors.
AMReyes’s work is distinguished by a visceral and imposing realism that captures the gaze at once. However, her approach does not stop at mere photographic mimesis. On a rigorously studied anatomy or faces charged with deep psychographic expressiveness, the artist intertwines and integrates icons, allegories, and conceptual elements: wings that seem invisible to the bearer, suspended threads, blocks of dense color, or garments rich in symbolism. For her, the human body and the everyday figure are the perfect canvas to reflect on identity.
