Description from the seller
Large vase / cachepot in artistic ceramic – Piscitello – Santo Stefano di Camastra – 1980–1990
Important vase/cachepot in Sicilian artistic ceramic, characterized by a lively multicolored decoration entirely hand-painted.
The work presents a wide, flared shape, with a height of about 22 cm and a diameter of about 30 cm. The surface is decorated with large abstract and stylized vegetal motifs in tones of blue, pink, burgundy, green, yellow and black, defined by pronounced dark and light outlines. The bright glaze enhances the brushstrokes and the color variations typical of artisanal craftsmanship.
Particularly scenographic the form, completed by black side handles, which confer to the object a strong decorative presence. The manual crafting is clearly perceptible in the brushstrokes, in the irregularity of the stroke and in the variations of the decoration, elements that make the piece unique.
The work is attributed to the historic manufacture ''Piscitello'' and is linked, for stylistic and decorative characteristics, to the production of Santo Stefano di Camastra in the period 1980–1990.
The lot is also accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the Piscitello company, which attests to the originality of the work and its dating to the period 1980–1990.
Antonino Piscitello was a multi-award-winning artist, a key figure in important fairs and exhibitions in Italy and abroad (London, Paris, Munich, New York, Chicago, Milan and Florence). In 2006 he was officially recognized as a “Living Human Treasure” and was included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list for Sicily.
An artwork of great visual impact, representative of the Sicilian artistic ceramic tradition and particularly suitable for both collecting and as an important interior design element.
