Paul Colin - La Revue Négre - 1970s

Splendid vintage advertising manifesto based on the famous work created by the master poster designer, the French Paul Colin. This iconic graphic in full Art Deco style captures the birth of the jazz era in Paris and marked the worldwide launch of the legendary dancer Joséphine Baker and the company "La Revue Nègre" at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. The poster depicts Baker in a dynamic and sinuous pose beside the cubist and rhythmic caricatures of the musicians, which visually evoke the energy and the syncopated tempo of the jazz of the era. At the bottom left it bears the typographic references. A piece of great visual impact and of enormous relevance for the history of interior design, 20th‑century graphics, and the pop and jazz culture of the early 20th century.
