CÍPARISO · Arbor Mundi III

Arbor Mundi is a sculptural series that explores the relationship between human beings and the vegetal world through myths and traditions of different cultures. Each piece starts from a tree and the stories associated with it to address transformation, memory and our continuity with nature.

In Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Cípariso, devastated after accidentally causing the death of a deer he loved, asks to be able to guard his grief forever. His body then transforms into a cypress.

Cupressus sempervirens: “evergreen.”

In this work, the body ascends to adopt the vertical structure of the cypress. The metamorphosis turns grief into matter and memory into a form of permanence.
