Norman painter born in 1924, Claude Gaignoux established himself as one of the region’s most sensitive artists to the light of ports and maritime landscapes. Permanently based in Normandy, he develops a body of work where port scenes, the shores of the Channel, seascapes, and changing skies prevail. His style, at once sober, luminous, and deeply atmospheric, favors soft harmonies and balanced compositions.
Gaignoux regularly exhibits in Norman galleries and participates in several regional salons, where his work is valued for its accuracy of observation and its sense of pictorial silence. His paintings, often imbued with discreet poetry, appeal to figurative art lovers attached to coastal landscapes. He died in 2005, leaving a coherent, elegant, and sought-after body of work by collectors of Norman painting of the 20th century.
