Bernard Loriot (1925–1998)
Norman figurative painter Bernard Loriot established himself as one of the artists attached to Honfleur and to the Seine estuary. Self-taught, he developed from the 1950s a luminous, lively and spontaneous painting, marked by the influence of the Honfleur masters and by careful observation of ports, beaches and urban scenes.
His colorful seascapes, animated sailing ships, landscapes of Venice and his Parisian views constitute the core of a warm body of work, immediately recognizable. Diffused in France and internationally, Loriot is today sought after for the decorative strength of his compositions and the joy that emanates from his palette.
