Description from the seller
Artist: Alfredo Grimaldi
Title: Gulf of Naples
Technique: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 50x70 cm
This work is an oil painting on canvas created by Alfredo Grimaldi, an artist known for his vibrant and tactile interpretations of Mediterranean landscapes, particularly the Amalfi and Neapolitan coasts.
The composition opens on a flowered terrace in the foreground, an explosion of deep pink roses, yellow and red flowers painted with thick, gestural, almost tactile brushstrokes. On the left, glimpses of local architecture with pastel pink and ochre yellow walls and light-colored roofs. The view then extends to the deep bay of the Gulf of Naples, a sea of cobalt blue and turquoise dotted with several small sailboats, one of them with a very prominent orange/red sail. At the center of the bay, a small fortified structure (probably Castel dell’Ovo) rises from the water. To the right, a majestic maritime pine stands alone, balancing the left coast. in the background, the iconic profile of Vesuvius with its two summits rises against a bright and dynamic blue sky, crossed by clouds streaked with white and pink, with the coastline of the city of Naples sprawling at its feet. The style is expressionist and tactile, characterized by a joyful and saturated use of color, capturing the essence and Mediterranean light with great immediacy and vitality. The work exudes a sense of joie de vivre and genuine love for Neapolitan beauty. The artist’s signature is visible in the lower right corner.
