AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Exhibited in Paris in 2026 as part of Le Livre Silencieux, this work belongs to Damián Comas’s exploration of landscape, memory and the gradual disappearance of the image.

Ancient Ruin, 2026

Damián Comas (1984)
Mixed media on canvas
50 × 70 cm

A solitary architectural structure emerges from an almost monochromatic landscape dominated by ochre, earth and muted golden tones. Three dark openings interrupt the building, while a second, distant construction appears on the horizon, barely distinguishable from the surrounding terrain.

Rather than depicting a specific place, Comas creates a landscape suspended between memory and disappearance. Layers of pigment, scratches and stains gradually dissolve the boundaries between architecture, ground and sky. The scene remains recognizable, yet seems partially erased by time.

The dark openings form the visual centre of the composition, suggesting inaccessible interiors, absences or passages. Human presence has disappeared, but the architecture retains the trace of something once inhabited.

The restricted palette gives the landscape an almost archaeological quality, as though the image had been recovered from memory rather than observed directly. Through this process of accumulation and erosion, Comas explores the unstable relationship between image, memory and materiality.

Original and unique work, created in 2026. Mixed media on canvas, 50 × 70 cm. Signed by the artist. The work is in excellent condition.
