Veliero, an original oil painting by Roberto Longanesi (XX) from 1980–1990, depicting a maritime landscape with a full‑rigged ship at sea, measuring 70 by 50 cm, hand-signed, sold with frame, accompanied by a certificate of guarantee and authenticity issued by the Gallery Il Castello (Adria) in 1984.
Description from the seller
Dramatic view of a large sailing ship with sails spread in the middle of a stormy sea, captured up close to emphasize the complexity of the rigging and standing rigging. The leaden sky and the rough waves, rendered with decisive brushstrokes, create a strong contrast with the white of the sails inflated by the wind, in a composition of great visual impact.
The maritime subject — sailing ship in navigation or in a storm — is a classic theme of seascape painting, very popular in Italian decorative art collecting in the second half of the twentieth century.
Provenance: the work is accompanied by the certificate of guarantee and authenticity issued by the Gallery “Il Castello” of Adria in 1984, attached in the photo.
