In the 1970s Gijsbert Hanekroot worked as a freelance photographer based in Amsterdam where he had a studio (Berenstraat 18). His main assignment was biweekly music paper Muziekkrant Oor (Ear), but he also worked for daily newspapers and magazines. He did concerts, interviews, press receptions and studio shoots. It were the golden years of rock music where the big names made their first and second albums, working hard to break through.

Hanekroot: 'It must have cost them an hour and a half to change and do makeup for a photo shoot. No problem - it's worth waiting to take such shots.'

Recently Gijsbert’s photos were shown in exhibitions among others in Paris, London, Moscow, Tokyo, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Belgrade and Amsterdam. He also published several books.
