Ifugao war shield – Bontok - Kalinga - Philippines

The Ifugao war shield, a wooden warrior’s shield of the Bontok people of northern Luzon, Philippines, traditionally called kalasag, is a single-piece carved wooden object. Recognizable by its characteristic points and notches, it served both as a close-quarters protection weapon and as a tactical tool during clashes and head-hunting expeditions. Historical pieces of these artifacts are documented by the National Museum of the Philippines.
