With this square-format artwork, Medsan brings the Iron Giant—the metal colossus from Brad Bird's animated film The Iron Giant (1999), based on Ted Hughes's story—into Gustav Klimt's Golden Age. The open mechanical hand cradles a living sparrow, and this encounter between steel and feather reenacts the film's founding moment: the war machine discovering life. All around, Klimt's gold, his spirals and stylized eyes cover the bodywork like Vienna’s painting covering its lovers.

The treatment is an oil painting with rich impasto, enhanced by brushed gold leaf effects and metallic drips that run vertically along the edges. The ornamental vocabulary is directly borrowed from Klimt of The Kiss and the Frieze of Stoclet: swirls, concentric circles, almond-shaped ocular motifs, and rectangles carved into the armor. The palette centers on gold, brass and amber, offset by emerald green and blood red accents in the decorative margins. The bold black contour that underlines the fingers and the helmet gives the whole piece a graphic legibility close to cloisonné, while the sparrow, the only element painted in naturalistic register, draws the eye by contrast. The vertical cartouche メドサン, the artist's signature in katakana, is integrated into the forearm armor at the lower right.

The mashup speaks a simple and powerful truth: what is made to destroy can choose to shelter. Klimt gilded love and human fragility; Medsan gilds here a mechanical consciousness at the precise moment it discovers itself as guardian. The bird, minuscule in the hollow of a palm that could crush it, becomes the Byzantine icon of this moral shift.

A bright and narrative piece, ideal for adding a touch that is at once precious and pop to a collector’s interior devoted to the bridges between great painting and screen culture.
