Description from the seller
THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1
With this square-format work, Medsan brings Wonder Woman, the Amazon princess Diana of Themyscira born under DC Comics and drawn by William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter, into Gustav Klimt's Golden Age. The composition directly cites the great Byzantine panels of the Viennese master — the Stoclet Frieze, the circular halo of The Kiss, the solid gold of Adele Bloch-Bauer I — and places the heroine standing there, sword at low, shield resting on the ground. The cartouche メドサン, in blue tesserae, signs the lower right corner.
Everything is treated as a mosaic of tesserae, in the manner of Ravenna’s golds that inspired Klimt during his 1903 trip: square fragments, visible joints, gold leaf shattered into thousands of shards that catch the light. The Klimt vocabulary is fully present — spirals, concentric swirls, black-and-white checks, eyes open borrowed from The Frieze motifs — while the burgundy corset and the deep blue skirt studded with stars provide the only chromatic breaks in this field of gold. The drapery, extended to the floor in a train of tesserae, turns the superheroine’s costume into a robe of sacred iconography; the Lasso of Truth curls into a golden arabesque at the character’s feet.
The mashup conveys something precise: Klimt painted majestic women enclosed in ornament, Medsan substitutes a figure bearing a sword and averting the gaze, eyelids lowered, perhaps tired of victory. The shield split on the ground and the countless eyes fixed on her from the background create a tension between the idol being looked at and the actual fighter. The gold here is not decorative but weight: that of the myth imposed on the one who must bear it.
A dense and sumptuous piece, ideal for adding a Byzantine and pop touch to the interior of a collector sensitive to both Viennese Secession and contemporary icons.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a studio of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Installed as a true place of artistic production, the studio operates both in collective creation and individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realist influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, art brut and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, realized and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity of its own for each artist.
