Joseph Delattre (1858‑1912) is one of the major figures of the Rouen School, that group of post-impressionist painters who captured with rare sensitivity the changing atmospheres of Normandy. Trained in Rouen and then in Paris, Delattre developed from early on a pronounced taste for vibrant lights, reflections on the water, and outdoor scenes, which he renders with a soft, delicate, and deeply poetic touch.
Close to Charles Angrand, Lemaître, and Pinchon, he played an essential role in structuring the Rouennais movement, becoming one of its most sought-after artists. His works — Seine landscapes, seashore scenes, rural views — enchant with their color harmony, luminous calm, and the capacity to seize the moment with great emotional truth.
Today, Delattre’s paintings are highly valued by collectors for their refinement, authenticity, and patrimonial value, representing one of the most sensitive expressions of late 19th‑century Norman painting.
