Softly awaken is an original oil-on-panel painting in an impressionist style, hand-signed, a portrait created in 2026 in the Netherlands, measuring 60 by 40 cm and sold directly from the artist.
Description from the seller
Softly awake
40x60 cm /oil on panel/ 0.6 cm
To the future owner,
This work comes most fully into its own in a quiet spot, where you can step back a little but also come close. The paint is thin and transparent in some areas, while especially the landscape and the green shapes around the boy are painted thicker and looser. Light that falls diagonally from the side onto the canvas makes these differences in texture most visible.
In cool daylight the turquoise and bluish-green tones become stronger; in warmer evening light the skin and the red in the hair come forward more. Prefer hanging the work away from direct sunlight, but in a place with soft, changing light. Thus the painting will continually gain a bit of character as the day goes on.
I hope that in his new place he becomes a calm point in the room—a painting that does not reveal everything immediately, but slowly moves with the light.
Oil paint on panel 0.6 cm
I enjoy making portraits of young men and boys because there is something special visible in that stage of life: a vulnerability that has not yet been worn down by the world. Their faces and bodies carry an indefinability— they are not quite formed, but full of promise and possibilities. It is precisely that in-between moment that interests me: no longer a child, not yet a man. In that transition lies a beauty I want to capture, the openness of what still can become and the fragile awareness that this stage lasts only briefly.
All series – from self-portraits and aging bodies to young male boxers, women at sunset, and intimate scenes with cats – can be found on my website, where you can also read more about my background and motivations:

I work exclusively with high-quality materials: professionally prepared canvases or smooth panels, and oil paint of top quality, rich in pigment. Each work is made with care and dedication – meant to last, not only in material, but also in meaning.
